LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell Women's Lacrosse team ended their regular season with a strong victory over Patriot League rival Lehigh on Saturday at Graham Field. The Bison were led by senior Meredith Wright and junior Andrea Paraud, who scored four goals on the day. Senior Laura Nuss also scored three goals in the seniors' final game at home.
Any early miscommunication allowed Lehigh to open the scoring on a Bucknell own-goal credited to Meredith Carso 1:46 into the game. Just :41 seconds later, Lehigh senior Ella Studdiford scored a point-blank goal to give the Mountain Hawks an early 2-0 lead.
Down 3-1, the Bison began to gain momentum as they scored five goals unanswered beginning with Paraud's goal on a pass from Wright from behind the net at 21:43. Wright tied the game at three with her second goal just: 16 seconds after securing the draw. The senior's offensive dominance continued as she connected with senior Amy Hasler for her first goal on the day to take the lead 4-3 at 17:26. Then from behind the net again, Wright connected with Laura Nuss for her first at 16:53. Sophomore Abby Brewster completed the Bison's five-goal unanswered streak with a free position goal at 2:35 for her second score on the year.
After a red card to Lehigh's Carso and an almost ten minute scoring draught for both teams, Ella Studdiford scored on a fast break pass from Rebecca Morley to bring Lehigh within two at 5:06. Bucknell's Paraud had the answer with an unassisted wrap-around goal at 2:35 to take the Bison into the half leading 7-4.
Trailing 9-5 with just under twenty minutes remaining in the second half, Lehigh began to threaten with a goal from junior Barrie Cominsky at 18:34. Ella Studdiford then beat Bucknell goalkeeper Lizzy McDaniel just over her left shoulder at 15:54 to bring the Mountain Hawks within two. McDaniel had nine saves on the day.
The Bison ended the Lehigh run and sealed the victory with three consecutive goals in a span of just :41 seconds by Emily Burman (5:43), Hasler (5:18), and sophomore Tory Field (5:02).
The win clinched the third seed in the Patriot League Tournament for the Bison. With Colgate's 10-9 victory over American, they earned the right to host the tournament while Bucknell will face American in the first round on May 1st.
