LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior catcher Angela Stackhouse (Muncy, Pa./Hughesville) is having a career season for the Bison, already reaching bests in batting, hits, homeruns and runs batted in with at least 12 games remaining in the campaign. Her .416 batting average not only leads the Patriot League, but it is also the 35th highest average in NCAA Division I this season.
The national leaders for 2004 were released for the first time this week, and Stackhouse is one of two Patriot League players in the top-50 for batting. Also ranked nationally is Colgate's Dorothy Donaldson with her .404 average, which is 48th in the nation.
On the season, Stackhouse has hit safely in 21 of 32 games for the Orange and Blue, and has never gone more than one game in a row without a hit. She had a career-high hit-streak of nine games snapped earlier this season, but is rebuilding that with her current six-game stretch. Stackhouse has had 10 games this year with two or more hits, and she has driven in two or more runs in six contests.
Bucknell is 7-19 overall and 3-9 in the Patriot League. The Bison host Army for a critical four-game series this weekend, beginning with Saturday's doubleheader at 1 p.m. Saturday's games will be broadcast on WMLP-1380AM and the Bucknell website (www.BucknellBison.com). Play-by-play will be provided by the Voice of the Bison, Doug Birdsong, and his color commentator will be longtime Bison softball coach and current Bucknell Associate Athletic Director for Business and Team Services, Terrie Grieb.
