LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell track and field teams were split between three sites this weekend, including the Susquehanna Invitational in Selinsgrove, Pa., the Jim Thorpe Invitational at Penn State, and the Stanford Invitational in Palo Alto, Calif. Six Bucknell athletes altered the school top-10 lists in their events, and four qualified for IC4A/ECAC competition in May.
Bison athletes achieved the greatest number of such successes at the Penn State meet. In addition to the record book entries and qualifying marks, several Bucknell athletes were event winners. Tolu Fayanjuola won the 100 meter dash in 12.12 seconds, the fourth-best time in Bucknell history, qualifying her for ECAC competition. Christa Sawko won the 400 meter hurdles in 1:04.54, the ninth-best time in school history, and the 1500 meters in 4:52.43. Jennifer Marsh won the 3000 meters in 10:32.33, Kat Allen was victorious in the 100-meter hurdles in 15.87 seconds, the 4x100 relay team of Danielle Todman, Sarah VandenBroek, Rehana Lanewala, and Fayanjuola won its race in 49.00 seconds, Angie Hall won the pole vault in a school second-best 11'5", Marjorie Grap won the discus with a toss of 134'5", and Angie McFarland won the hammer throw with an ECAC-qualifying toss of 158'10". Lauren Bricker and Ann Doty finished second and third, respectively, in the triple jump at Penn State, with Bricker's 38'5" distance as the third-best in Bucknell history, and Doty's 37'3 ?" the eighth-best in school annals.
While 32 Bison competed at Susquehanna's meet, just four Bison traveled to California for the Stanford competition. In the group was Katie Pfeifer, who finished third in her section of the 5000 meters in the 10th-best time in school history of 17:36.69. Greg Costello (30:09.80) and Dan Lounsbury (30:43.08) qualified for IC4A competition in the 10K.
The Bison will be back in action next Friday and Saturday at the Duke Invitational in Durham, N.C.
