
Bison Track & Field Teams Open Competition at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell had several fine performances during the first day of the Bison Outdoor Classic Distance and Multi Carnival on Friday at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium. The non-scoring event continues through Saturday evening.
On the men's side, Mike Mellas is in contention in the decathlon. After five events he is in third place with 3,311 points, behind only Cornell's Ethan Albright-Carrie (3,384) and Lehigh's Vaclav Malek (3,354). Mellas won the long jump and was second in both the high jump and 400 meters on Friday night.
Greg Costello placed sixth in the 5,000 meters in a time of 14:40.64. Dan Lounsbury (14th, 15:03.36) and Doug Creveling (21st, 15:15.25) also competed in the top section of the 5K.
Matt Forys was eighth in the steeplechase in 9:34.50, while Kevin Brown (9:56.34) and Billy Young (9:57.42) were 13th and 14th, respectively. Jesse Graytock was the top Bison finisher in the 10K, clocking a time of 32:24.59, good for 12th place. Kevin Walsh was 10th in the invitational 1,500 meters, finishing in 3:58.15.
Jennifer Marsh turned in the top performance of the night for the Bucknell women, placing second in the invitational 1,500 in a time of 4:38.45. The time was a personal best and the fourth-fastest in school history. Jennifer Stevens also ran well in the 1,500, placing fifth in 4:47.35.
Jamie Gow finished fourth in the steeplechase in 11:31.52, also a personal record and the second-fastest mark in BU history. Lauren Bricker (7th, 11:45.15) ran the fifth-fastest steeple on the Bucknell all-time charts, and Christa Sawko (8th, 11:48.04) moved into seventh all-time.
Stephanie Keller placed third in the 10,000 meters in 39:41.04, while Leanna Nastase took eighth in the 5K in 18:33.39.
Through four events in the heptathlon, Bucknell's Nina Reinhardt is in third place with 2,487 points, trailing only Jamie Greubel of Cornell (2,954) and Leslie Martin of SUNY Cobleskill (2,514). Danielle Todman (2,434) and Robin Meling (1,916) are sixth and eighth, respectively.
