ORLANDO, Fla. - Colorado State's leadoff batter Stephanie Roberts went 4-for-5 with two solo home runs, and the Colorado State Rams pounded out 16 hits en route to a 10-0 defeat of the Bucknell softball team on Friday, March 19. The Orange and Blue were shutout for the first time this season after leaving five runners on base.
Roberts opened the game with a blast to centerfield, and the Rams tacked on two more runs in the top of the second. After surrendering six hits to the potent Colorado State offense in the first two innings, freshman pitcher Lisa Vaccaro settled in to give up just five hits over the next four innings and limit the Rams to just two more runs during that time.
Bucknell's best scoring opportunity came in the fourth inning when senior Angela Stackhouse hit a one-out single to left field and sophomore Lauren Wible followed with a double to right centerfield. CSU pitcher JayCee Wood got out of the jam, however, striking out the final two batters in the frame.
Colorado State exploded for five runs in their final at bat to put the game out of reach. The squad capitalized on five hits in the frame, and one Bison error, to reach double-figures in the scoring column.
Wible finished the contest 2-for-3 with her team-best fourth double of the year.
Bucknell is 2-4 overall and will face Cleveland State at 4:10 p.m. this afternoon.
