Bison Softball Goes 2-0 on First Day with 5-1 Win over Wagner

ORLANDO, Fla. - The Bucknell softball team made it a 2-0 day with a 5-1 win over Wagner in the second game of the day at the Rebel Spring Games on Monday, March 15. The Bison defeated Vermont 4-1 earlier in the day.
Freshman Michelle Danish went 2-for-3 in the game with one run batted in, while classmate Lauren Litts was 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Sophomore hurler Julie Williams went the distance for her first win of the season, giving up nine hits, striking out two, walking just one and giving up just one run.
Bucknell wasted little time getting on the board, scoring twice in the bottom of the first. Sophomore Kris Devore opened the inning with a single through the left side, and freshman Meghan Feller followed with a sacrifice bunt to advance the runner, while also reaching on a Wagner error. Senior Angela Stackhouse moved the runners to second and third with her sacrifice bunt, and one out later, Litts delivered her two-RBI single through the right side.
The Orange and Blue extended their lead to 4-0 in their half of the fourth. Litts reached base on a fielding error to open the inning, and Danish followed with a single through the left side. Rookie Katherine Heatley bunting the two over, and junior Jill Pompeii came through with an RBI single through the left side. The next batter, senior Kristen Potts, also singled through the right side to score Danish from third.
The Seahawks got on the board in the top of the fifth when Christina Hopkins delivered an RBI single up the middle, scoring Christy Sykora who had singled up the middle in her at-bat. Wagner nearly scored again in the inning when Jessica Van Manen single up the middle, but a perfect relay from Pompeii in centerfield caught Kate Refsnyder trying to score from second.
The Bison got the run back in the bottom of the inning when sophomore Lauren Wible doubled to right field, and one out later, Danish singled in freshman pinch runner Monica Grinage.
Wagner actually outhit Bucknell 9-8, but the Seahawks committed two errors, while BU played its second-straight error-free game. The Bison improve to 2-1 overall and compete again at 2:20 p.m. on Tuesday, March 16, against IUPUI. Wagner falls to 1-4.
