Bison Women's Water Polo Player Named Lewisburg Hotel Athlete of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's water polo player Meg Blitzer (Durham, N.H./Phillips Academy) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 8, 2004. Blitzer, a junior, was selected on the basis of her performances in a 2-1 week for the Bison.
The Orange and Blue traveled to the D.C. area this past weekend to face Southern Division League foes Villanova, George Washington and Maryland. BU posted a 2-1 weekend, picking up wins over Villanova (11-6) and Maryland (11-3), and falling to GW, 6-2.
In Bucknell's weekend-opening win over Villanova, Blitzer scored seven of the squad's 11 goals, setting a school record for goals in a game. The co-captain also managed to hand out two assists to have a hand in nine of BU's goals. Blitzer was also responsible for one of the Bison's two goals in the loss to George Washington.
The driver closed the weekend with a two-goal, two-assist performance against the Terps in the two teams first-ever meeting as conference rivals.
For the weekend, Blitzer tallied 10 times and helped on four other scores for 14 points, tops on the team. She also registered three steals in each game to pace the team with nine on the weekend. With 25 goals and seven assists, Blitzer leads the team with 32 points, 13 more than the next closest teammate.
Bucknell is 6-4 overall and 2-2 in the Southern Division. The Bison are in action next on their annual spring break trip to California. The Orange and Blue will kick off a 10-game West Coast swing with a 3:45 p.m. ET game against Pomona-Pitzer at the Cal Baptist Invitational on Friday, March 12.
