LEWISBURG, Pa. - A total of eleven Bucknell athletes were named to All-Patriot League teams for indoor track and field, including eight women and three men. Five members of the Patriot League champion women's team landed on the league's first team. The women's team, led by Kevin Donner, who is now the three-time Patriot League women's indoor coach of the year, earned 198 points and piled up the largest margin of victory in Patriot League women's indoor history, leading Navy by 94 points. The men's team finished third behind Navy and Army, who were separated by two points in the closest-ever men's indoor league meet.
Melanie Buczko, Amy Calvo, Ann Doty, Tolu Fayanjuola, and Christa Sawko earned spots on the league's women's first team. Freshman Buczko is the first athlete in the Patriot League to capture both the pole vault and 60-meter hurdles in an indoor championship meet, and became the first Bucknell athlete to run a 60-meter hurdle race in under nine seconds, finishing in 8.94. Buczko already held the Bucknell pole vault record at 12'9 ?". Calvo, a junior, won the 400 meter race for the second straight year and earns her third all-league nomination. She ranks as the third-fastest 400 runner in Bucknell history.
Doty, a freshman, won the triple jump with the third-best leap in school history of 38'10 ?" and earns first-team all-league status for the accomplishment, as does fellow jumper Fayanjuola. The junior recorded the third-best long jump in Bucknell history at the league meet, leaping 18'8 ?". She also won the 60-meter dash in a Bucknell-record 7.75 seconds for the relatively new event. It is her second time on the all-league team. Freshman Sawko won the 800 race at the league meet in 2:15.18, the fifth-best time in Bucknell history.
Rounding out the women's selections are the three second-teamers, junior Monique Boley, freshman Lauren Bricker, and freshman Sarah Groman. Boley finished second in the 400 as part of a one-two-three finish that included Calvo and Rehana Lanewala. Boley ran the sixth-best 400 in school history, finishing in 58.07 seconds, earning her first all-league nomination. Bricker won two silver medals in the triple jump and 800 where she finished behind Doty and Sawko, respectively. Groman finished second in the high jump.
The three men's honorees all made the league's second team. Senior Noel Powell made his fourth all-league squad for finishing second in the long jump, 200, and 400, earning 24 of Bucknell's 68 ? points. Senior Aaron Hanlon earned his first all-league nomination for finishing second in the 800, and Greg Costello was honored for the first time for his runner-up 5K finish. Costello joined the school's 5K list earlier this year, running the ninth-best time in school history.
Ten of the 11 athletes will be competing in the IC4A/ECAC meet March 6-7 in Boston, Mass. Buczko has earned admittance to the pole vault and 60-meter hurdle races, Calvo in the 400 and 500, Doty in the triple jump, Fayanjuola in the long jump and 60-meter dash, Sawko in the 800 and 4x800 relay, Boley in the 500, and Bricker in the 4x800 relay. On the men's side, Costello qualified for the 3K and 5K, Powell for the 200 and long jump, and Hanlon for the 800.
