LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's water polo player Cody Keffer (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Athlete of the Week for the week ending February 15, 2004. Keffer, a junior, was selected on the basis of her performances in a 2-1 week for the Bison.
The Orange and Blue squad opened the 2004 season this past weekend, competing at the Princeton Invitational. BU got off to a rough start with a 9-7 loss to Harvard in the first game, but rebounded with a 9-7 win against Wagner and a 12-1 defeat of Marist on the second day.
Keffer was held off the scoreboard in the first game, but responded with a three-goal, two assist performance in Bucknell's close win against Wagner. With her second goal of the game, the 2-meter player recorded her 100th career-score, becoming just the seventh player in school history to achieve the milestone. Against Marist, Keffer concluded the weekend with one goal and two assists while helping the squad to the decisive win.
For the weekend, Keffer tallied four times and helped on four other scores for eight points, second on the team. She needs just three more goals to move into the top-five on the Bucknell career list for scores, 10 more assists to jump into the top-three, and 10 more points for a spot in the top-five, all with nearly two full seasons to go.
Bucknell is 2-1 for the first time since 2001. The Bison will host the Bucknell Invitational on Saturday and Sunday, February 28-29. BU faces Michigan State for its first game at 10:05 a.m. on Saturday.
