LEWISBURG, Pa. - First-year head women's lacrosse coach Jess Spadafora has announced that seniors Annie Greenspun (Ardmore, Pa./Haverford), Amy Lee (Chatham, N.J./Chatham) and Andrea Paraud (Bethesda, Md./Georgetown Visitation) will captain the Bucknell squad this spring.
The threesome represents the only seniors on a Bison team that is hoping to build on a successful 2004 season, when Bucknell finished 8-7 overall and 4-2 in the Patriot League. All three captains are expected to play significant on-field roles as well.
Greenspun will be one of the key members of a veteran defensive unit that ranked third in the league in goals allowed a year ago. She has played in 44 career games, including 23 starts. Lee has been a reserve attack throughout her first three seasons at Bucknell and has five career goals, including three in 12 games last year. Paraud doubled her previous career scoring total with 36 points on 26 goals and 10 assists last season. She was Bucknell's second-leading scorer and ranked ninth in the Patriot League in points per game.
"We have three seniors back this spring, and it is fitting that they are all captains because each of them will play an important leadership role on the team," said Spadafora, who was named the program's 10th head coach this past August. "All three are very talented lacrosse players, and just as important, each of them represent all the positives of being a Bucknell student-athlete."
Bucknell begins its 2004 season on Feb. 27 at Longwood. The Bison play their home opener on March 11 against Patriot League rival Lafayette at 6 p.m.
