LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell men's lacrosse coach Sid Jamieson recently announced that seniors Chris Cara (Medford, N.Y./Patchogue-Medford), Nick Lane (Boonton Township, N.J./Mountain Lakes) and T.J. Wallace (Penfield, N.Y./McQuaid Jesuit) will serve as team captains this spring. The trio will help direct a Bucknell squad that will again be among the favorites for a Patriot League title.
As a junior Cara led the nation in scoring with a whopping 78 points (38 goals, 40 assists) in 14 games, missing the Bucknell and Patriot League single-season scoring records by just a single point. He was named the 2004 Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year and was an Honorable Mention All-American. Cara enters the 2005 campaign needing 37 points to become Bucknell's all-time leading scorer.
"Chris Cara has the determination and drive to win all the time, whether it is in season or out," said Jamieson. "He is a winner and just a very special player."
A much-improved attackman, Lane is the epitome of a team player. He has been a member of the reserve unit throughout his career and has three goals and three assists. Lane plays numerous positions in practice and is one of the team's hardest workers, in addition to being one of the team's most popular players.
"Nick is the type of player that every program must have to be successful," said Jamieson. "It is great that the team would recognize that and name him captain."
Wallace is one of Bucknell's top defensive midfielders, possessing excellent speed in transition. He played in all 14 games last season, scoring one goal while collecting 26 ground balls. Wallace is a key member of Bucknell's man-down unit in addition to his outstanding cover skills.
"T.J. is an `attitude' type guy," said Jamieson. "He is definitely a leader by example with the tough, hard-nosed play he brings to the field every day."
Bucknell finished 6-8 last season, including a 4-3 Patriot League record. The Bison finished in third place in the regular season before dropping a tense 10-9 decision to Hobart in the Patriot League Tournament semifinals.
The Bison open their 2005 campaign at home against Marist on March 1.
