LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell women's swimmers Lauren Butrie, Lauren Reed, Kristen Skroski and Rebecca Scheffter were named Bison Athletes of the Week after winning the 400-yard freestyle relay to secure the comeback win against Army on Saturday. The Bison women trailed 116-110 going into the last event, when the relay squad won the final race in a time of 3:36.31, nosing Army's time of 3:37.26 and winning the meet, 123-120.
Individually, Butrie (Orefield, Pa./Parkland) swam in the 100 free, finishing fourth in a time of 55.87. The freshman also swam a leg on the winning 400 medley relay.
Another double winner, Reed (South Plainfield, N.J./Mount Saint Mary Academy) swam a leg of the 400 medley relay as well as finishing fifth in the 100 free. The junior ranks third all-time for the Bison in the 100 butterfly. Reed also holds the Bucknell season best times in both the 50 and 100 fly.
Skroski (North Haven, Conn./Hopkins School), only a freshman, added another Bison win earlier in the day, taking the 500 free in 5:11.42. Skroski also placed second in the 200 free in a time of 1:56.40, the ninth best time in Bison history. So far this season, Skroski recorded team bests in the 200 and 500 free.
Scheffter (Mount Airy, Md./Linganore) racked up two individual runner-up finishes in the 50 and 100 free. She is also the current leader in the 100 free season standings for the Bison. Scheffter, a sophomore, is currently ranked in the all-time Bucknell standings in three individual events.
Both the Bison men and women will be in action again on Saturday, Dec. 4, at the Bucknell Trials/Finals Invitational. The event will run through Sunday, Dec. 5, with sessions taking place at 10 a.m. and 5 p.m. on both days.
