Pair of Bucknell Men's Water Polo Players Pick up Postseason Awards

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Two key cogs in the Bucknell men's water polo team's 17-14 season, Bradley Roslyn and Aaron Platshon, picked up postseason honors recently. The duo helped the Bison claim fifth place at the Eastern Championship this past weekend. Roslyn was named to both the All-East first team and All-League Southern Division first team, while Platshon earned All-League Southern Division second team accolades.
Roslyn, who was a member of the Southern Division second team in 2003, was honored following a season in which he led Bucknell with 50 goals and 68 points. The goal total was a career high for the junior who has 138 career scores. The Philadelphia, Pa., native also led the team by drawing 41 ejections and firing 150 shots. On two separate occasions this season Roslyn tallied five goals in a game, including against Salem International in the Eastern Championship fifth-place game which the Bison won 9-8.
That five-goal performance led Roslyn to a place on the All-East first team, announced by the Collegiate Water Polo Association following the eight-team tournament this past weekend. Roslyn scored six goals and added two assists as he led the Bison to a 2-1 record and a fifth-place showing. He also drew five ejections and had one steal in the three games as Bucknell posted its best finish since a fourth-place performance in 1998.
Platshon, a two-time team captain, was named to the Southern Division second team for the second consecutive year after scoring 17 goals and tallying 17 assists. The Menlo Park, Calif., native was one of Bucknell's best defensive players, registering 34 steals and drawing 22 ejections. The steal total ranked second on the team behind fellow senior Jay Danforth's 49.
At this past weekend's Eastern Championship, which Bucknell hosted at Kinney Natatorium, Princeton claimed the title with a 3-2 win over St. Francis (N.Y.) in the second sudden death overtime period. The Tigers earned the automatic berth to the NCAA Championship, hosted by Stanford, Dec. 4-5. Kinney Natatorium will serve as host to the 2005 NCAA Tournament.
Bucknell finished its season with a 17-14 record, its most wins since it posted a 21-21 mark in 2000. The last time the Bison finished above .500 was 1999.
