Bison Women's Cross Country Breaks into Top 10 at NCAA Regional

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Bucknell women's cross country finished with a mere 15 seconds between first and fifth runners to place 10th of 24 teams at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional, Saturday in State College, Pa. The Bison men pulled off a 13th place finish in a field of 23 teams.
Bison sophomore Leanna Nastase led the Bison for the fifth time this season placing 53rd in the field of 171 runners. Nastase cruised across the 6,000-meter course in 22 minutes, 47 seconds. Senior Jennifer Marsh finished as Bucknell's second runner, placing 58th overall edging out teammate Erin Cranmer-Hart in the 59th spot. Both Bison crossed the finish line in 22:52.
Rounding out the Bison scorers on the women's side were Kayla Halloran and Katie Pfeifer. Halloran (22:56) ran to a 63rd place finish followed by Pfeifer (23:01) in 65th position.
In the men's 10,000-meter competition, Senior Doug Creveling was the first Bison finisher placing 61st overall, nosing teammate Matt Forys in 62nd. Creveling and Forys both finished in 32:24 in a field of 167 athletes. Next came Stephen Schaefer and Travis Rivers in 78th and 79th places, running times of 32:45 and 32:47, respectively. Ryan Delaney was Bucknell's final scoring runner in 84th place in 32:56.
In the team competition, the Bison women's 10th place, 287 point performance bested Patriot League rival Navy's 12th place, 317 point showing. West Virginia came away with the win with 63 points, just six points ahead of Villanova with 68 points. Pittsburgh's Maureen McCandless won the race in 20:26.
Georgetown took the men's race with 49 points while American placed second with 63 points. Rob Koborsi of Georgetown won the individual title in 30:24.
The Bison will race once more this season at the ECAC/IC4A Championships on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Bronx, N.Y.
