Women's Tennis Picks Up a Dozen Wins at Bucknell Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team opened play in the 2004 Bucknell Invitational on Saturday in Lewisburg. Due to the rainy conditions, the tournament was stopped midway through the second round of singles play and will resume tomorrow at 8:30 a.m.
In flight A, Bucknell got wins from all four of its entrants. Nada Curcic, Tanya Sichko and Veronica Brown all won two matches on the day while Daniella Shtemberg won her first match and lost the second in flight A. Curic and Sichko will face off tomorrow for a spot in the tournament final while Brown will also play in the semifinals.
Chelsea Mills and Rheanna Gaskin both picked up victories in the B flight of the tournament while Caitie Baffa and Jill Merselis notched wins in the C bracket. In the D bracket, Rene Clinton won her first round match while Kelly Porter received a bye.
"All the players looked strong in the early rounds," said Bucknell head coach Rebecca Helt of her team's play.
Because of today's rain delays, tomorrow's action will be singles only, there will be no doubles matches in the tournament.
