No. 20 Bucknell Drops Pair to Ranked Teams in Men's Water Polo

ANNAPOLIS, Md. - The Bucknell men's water polo team, ranked 20th in the country, faced a pair of teams ahead of it in the latest national poll in No. 12 Princeton and No. 16 Navy Saturday. The Tigers posted a close 10-9 victory over the Bison in the second game of the day, while the Mids upended Bucknell 13-8 in the opener. The Bison fell to 13-9 overall and 5-3 in CWPA Southern Division play with the two setbacks.
In the nightcap against Princeton, Bucknell fell behind 3-1 following the first quarter, but stormed back with four second-quarter goals to tie the score at 5-5 going into halftime. In the second half, the Tigers outscored the Bison 5-4 en route to the one-goal victory.
Bradley Roslyn connected on three of his five shots to lead the Bucknell offense, which fired 20 shots in the game. Josh Sunday and Jay Danforth also added two goals apiece. Danforth also tallied a team-high three steals.
Goalie Trevor Mullins stopped six shots after making four saves against Navy in the first contest of the day. His 160 saves this season is just three away from his career high of 163 he set last year as a sophomore.
In that Navy game, Bucknell fell to the Mids for the first time this season after upending them 8-6 at the ECAC Championships last month. At halftime the Bison trailed by just a 5-3 margin, but were outscored 8-5 in the second half as Navy cruised to victory.
On offense, Bucknell showed balance as six different players scored goals, led by two apiece from Elliot Benoist and Bradley Roslyn. Aaron Platshon, Nick Ferring, Danforth and Jared Gray also netted single goals as the Bison connected on eight of their 19 shots.
All nine of Bucknell's losses this season have come to ranked opponents.
The Bison return to Kinney Natatorium for a pair of rematches against league foes Princeton and Navy next Saturday, Oct. 23.
