ANNAPOLIS, Md. - Nick Ferring scored the game-winning goal with one second left in the second overtime period as the No. 20 Bucknell men's water polo team defeated Salem International 9-8 Friday evening. The win marked the second time this season the Bison have defeated the Tigers in extra periods.
Kyle Roslyn drew a foul near the close of the second overtime session, and on the restart of play, found Ferring for the winning goal with a cross pass. The score was the third of the game for Ferring who now has 21 goals this season. If Ferring had not been able to connect with the back of the net the game would have entered sudden-victory overtime where the first team to score would win.
Jay Danforth contributed the majority of the Bucknell offense with four goals in the game, while Elliot Benoist and Josh Sunday rounded out the scoring with one goal apiece.
Bucknell's defense limited Salem International to just eight goals after giving up 10 during a 12-10 overtime win over the Tigers in Kinney Natatorium back in September. Leading the way was goalie Trevor Mullins who made a career-high 14 saves in the contest. After allowing six first-half goals, Mullins settled down and gave up just two scores following halftime.
The Bison (13-7, 5-1 Southern Division) continue league play Saturday, Oct. 16, against Navy and Princeton in Annapolis, Md. Bucknell will face the host Mids at 11 a.m., while it will take on the Tigers at 6:45 p.m.
