LEWISBURG, Pa. - Fans attending Bucknell's Patriot League contests the remainder of the season will be treated to special themed days in addition to the usual halftime fun and exciting Bison hoops.
Three consecutive promotional days begin the slate. On Friday, Jan. 30, while the Bucknell men and women face Colgate's squads, all fans are invited to dress in tropical apparel for "Hawaiian Night." Fans will receive leis at the door and be able to participate in Hawaiian-themed contests at halftime. The concessions fare will also be different, as Hawaiian pizza and non-alcoholic pina coladas are set to be among the items served.
The following day, many Bison men from years past will reconvene for some time on the hardwood, this time in the new Sojka Pavilion, and play an Alumni Game. Among those expected to attend are 2003 Bucknell Hall of Famer Mike Joseph '90, as well as the third-leading scorer in Bucknell history, Mike Bright '93, NCAA Tournament team member Chris Seneca '87, and a familiar face to recent fans, Dan Blankenship '03.
Sunday, Feb. 1 will be Junior Bison Club Day. Children who are Junior Bison Club members are invited to attend a party after the men's game with pizza, autograph signings, and a surprise gift for each child. Parents can visit www.BucknellBison.com or call Colleen Sperry at 570-577-3550 to sign up. Memberships can also be purchased at the game.
The Bison men and women will host American on Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning the second round of Patriot League play. That day will also be the second of two days themed for youngsters, as Youth Camp Day comes to Sojka Pavilion. All children who participated in the men's and women's basketball camps this past summer are invited to sign in at the door and attend the game for free. Bucknell basketball will also celebrate National Girls and Women in Sports Day, complete with face painting and autograph sessions for kids and halftime recognition for Bucknell's female athletes. Bucknell will then face Lehigh on Tuesday, Feb. 10.
The final promotional day will take place against in-state rival Lafayette, as Mardi Gras will come to Lewisburg on Friday, Feb. 20. Fans will receive beads at the door and be able to partake in Cajun fare and other Fat Tuesday-themed contests. Students will also have the chance to "Shoot for a Bookstore Shopping Spree." Students can enter a drawing to be one of the three students who shoot from half-court for generous Bucknell Bookstore gift certificates.
Following the women's Alumni Game on Feb. 21, Bucknell's final home game will be on Sunday, Feb. 22 against Army. Fans will see the exciting Extreme Dunk Team perform acrobatic slam dunks during halftime of both the men's and women's games. Men's seniors Davorin Skornik, Roland Webber, Matt Quinn, Jack Namvou, and Jeremiah Bennett, as well as women's seniors Desire Almind, Katie Hettler, and Kristin Valdner, will be honored for their Bucknell basketball contributions.
