Bison Women's Tennis Wraps Up Competition at Bucknell Invitational

Lewisburg, Pa. - Ten Bucknell women's tennis players competed against foes from seven other schools over the weekend, including Georgetown, Marist, Pittsburgh, Duquesne, Villanova, Bloomsburg, and Loyola (Md.).
In singles flight "A", Tanya Sichko advanced to the finals of the main draw before falling to Candice Carlin of Villanova, 6-1, 6-0. Sichko went 3-1 on the weekend. Veronica Brown was also in flight "A" and went 1-1.
In singles flight "B", Rheanna Gaskin and Samantha Berthod each went 2-2 and advanced to the semifinals of the main draw. In flight "C", Bucknell had three athletes, including Chelsea Mills, who advanced to the flight's final before falling to Villanova's Kelly McAndrew, 6-3, 6-2. Rebecca Kral went 2-1, and Kristen Pugno went 0-2.
In singles flight "D", Renee Clinton, Jill Merselis, and Kelly Porter went 1-1.
The Bison also had five doubles teams competing. Brown and Sichko split in flight "A" doubles competiton, as did Gaskin and Berthod in flight "B". In flight "C", Kral and Mills won two matches and advanced to the final before falling to Gina Turturriello and Claire Najour of Loyola, 8-4. In flight "D", Bucknell had two teams competing, including Merselis and Porter, who advanced to the finals before falling to Clara McDermott and Beth Rahauser of Duquesne, 8-2. Along the way, that Bucknell duo handed the other Bucknell duo in the flight, Pugno and Clinton, their only final, an 8-5 defeat.
Bucknell will again be in action on Friday at home against St. Francis (Pa.) at 3:00 p.m., and on Sunday, Sept. 28, at home against Delaware at 12:30 p.m.
