OLEAN, N.Y. - One week after winning its own invitational, the Bucknell men's golf team continued its fine play by firing a 304 team score Sunday in the first round of the St. Bonaventure Keenan Invitational at Bartlett Country Club.
Four other teams also shot 304 Sunday, creating a five-way logjam for third place, 10 strokes behind front-running Duquesne. Host St. Bonaventure is three shots back at 297, while Bucknell, Drexel, Siena, Saint Francis (Pa.) and Seton Hall are all tied for third. Rider is just a shot back at 305, while Loyola (307), Niagara (307) and Cornell (308) are also in contention.
Bison senior Abbie Valentine carded a two-over-par 72, which has him in a tie for seventh place individually. Valentine, who finished runner-up after a playoff in this event a year ago, shot a sizzling 33 on the back nine after going out in 39.
Tom Lane followed with a 75, and freshmen Kyle Moran and Charles Waddell finished with 78 and 79, respectively, giving Bucknell four scores in the 70s for the third straight round. Bucknell's fifth man, Alex Dolle, shot 81.
Eric Couture of Saint Francis carded a 67 to grab the individual lead by one shot over Scott Sanderson of Seton Hall and Josh Anderson of St. Bonaventure.
The final 18 holes of the tournament are slated for Monday morning.
