Lewisburg, Pa. - Patriot League voters made their predictions for the 2003 cross country season and have selected Bucknell fourth in the conference. The Bison garnered 64 poll points. American was selected first, followed by a tie for second between Navy, a newcomer to Patriot League cross country, and Army. Bucknell ended last season third in the league, and is expected to contend with the service academies and American for the league crown. League voters will have their predictions tested on November 1 at the Patriot League Championship at Lafayette.
Bucknell opens the season on this Saturday, Sept. 6, at the University of Detroit Invitational in Northville, Mich. Other important meets for the Bison include their only home meet of the year, the Gulden Invitational, on October 18, the Mid-Atlantic Regional on November 15 at Lock Haven but hosted by Bucknell, and the IC4A Championships on Nov. 22 in the Bronx, N.Y.
The voting body consisted of Patriot League coaches and sports information directors. Coming up behind Bucknell were Colgate in fifth, Lehigh in sixth, Holy Cross in seventh, and Lafayette in eighth.
The Bison have won six Patriot League crowns since the race's inception in 1990, including three straight from 1990-1992 and another three from 1997-1999. Bucknell has had four individual race champions, including last year's winner, Bryan Johnston.
