Bucknell Women's Tennis Wins Dual Match Opener Over St. Joseph's, 6-1

Philadelphia, Pa. - The Bucknell women's tennis team opened its dual match season today in Philadelphia against St. Joseph's in triumphant fashion, sweeping the doubles and winning five singles matches to claim a 6-1 victory.
The Bison started the match by claiming the doubles point. On court one, Veronica Brown and Tanya Sichko beat St. Josephs' Pilar Glodzik and Nicole Morrison, 8-2. The success continued on court two, where Rheanna Gaskin and Samantha Berthod beat Katie Bobish and Jess Swanderski, 8-0. On court three, Chelsea Mills and Rebecca Kral beat Sofia Carreno and Erika Guers, 8-6.
On the singles side, Sichko beat Glodzik 6-3, 6-0 on court one and Brown beat Bobish 6-0, 6-1 on court two, while Gaskin knocked off Morrison, 6-1, 7-6(7) on court three.
On the back three courts, Berthod beat Michelle Savage, 6-3, 6-3 at number four, while Mills beat Swanderski, 6-0, 6-1 on court five. On court six, St. Joseph's won its only match of the day when Emily Guers beat Rebecca Kral 7-5, (5-7), (10-8). The second set was played in regular tiebreak format and the third set in super tiebreak format due to time constraints.
The Bison will resume their season in tournament form on Saturday, Sept. 20 and Sunday, Sept. 21 hosting the Bucknell Invitational. Six other schools will participate, including Georgetown, Marist, Loyola, Villanova, Pittsburgh, and Duquesne, in addition to the Bison.
