Bison Volleyball Drops Pair in 2003 Season Debut

FULLERTON, Calif. - Bucknell's 2003 volleyball campaign got off to a tough start, as the Bison fell to a pair of very good teams in Valparaiso and Nevada, both in three games, at Cal State Fullerton's Four Points Titan Classic on Friday.
The Bison (0-2), will face Fordham and Cal State Fullerton on Saturday at Titan Gym.
Against Valpo in the season opener, junior Jackie Leahy led all players with 10 kills, but the Bison hit just -.068 as a team and fell 30-21, 30-11, 30-12. The Crusaders, led by Lauren Moulton's nine kills, hit .330 as a team and outblocked Bucknell 13-1.
Senior Brandi Trapasso had 13 digs and twin sister Breean Trapasso finished with 18 assists for Bucknell. Sophomore Chelsea Anderson added 12 digs.
Bucknell steadily improved in the nightcap against Nevada, falling 30-17, 30-21, 30-26. Leahy again led the offensive attack with a match-high 10 kills, while Brandi Trapasso added nine kills and six digs. Leahy also chipped in a match-high 12 digs. Freshman Jennie Smith had four kills and two blocks.
Salaia Salavea and Christine Harms led the Wolfpack (2-0) with eight kills apiece.Bucknell held a 38-37 edge in digs, but Nevada outhit the Bison .178-.020.
In game three, the Bison led 25-23 after Leahy's kill, but the Wolfpack rallied for five straight points to assume control. There were seven ties and six lead changes in the final frame. Nevada jumped out to quick leads in the opening two games, taking a 10-5 lead in game one and a 10-1 edge in game two.
