Bison Women's Water Polo Team and Players Receive All-Academic Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell women's water polo team placed nine student-athletes on the American Water Polo Coaches Association All-Academic team for the 2003 season. The association acknowledges water polo players who achieve a cumulative grade point average within the range of 3.2 - 4.0, on a 4.0 scale, and who are starters or significant reserves.
In addition, the association recognizes those institutions whose combined team GPA is over 2.75. Bucknell was honored as one of the top-20 teams with a cumulative GPA of 3.17.
Two Bucknell players from head coach John Zeigler's squad were listed under the category of "Superior Achievement," having established a GPA between 3.41 and 3.70. Sophomores Cody Keffer (Berkeley, Calif./Berkeley) and Larissa Brown (Tacoma, Wash./Curtis Senior) each earned a spot on the list for the second straight year. Keffer maintains a 3.58 GPA as a sociology major, while Brown carries a 3.52 grade point average in political science.
Seven other Bison were listed in the "Excellent Achievement" category with a GPA in the range of 3.2 - 3.4. Junior Kelly Hofstetter (Scotts Valley, Calif./Harbor) headlined this group, posting a 3.38 grade point average as a sociology major. Joining Hofstetter in the excellent group were sophomore Eileen Ketterer (Altamonte Springs, Fla./Lyman), senior tri-captain Lindsay Chesterfield (Kingston, Pa./Wyoming Valley West), freshman Kaitlin Bardoe (Windermere, Fla./West Orange), senior tri-captain Jamie Fulop (Neshanic Station, N.J./Somerville), sophomore Ashley Aiken (San Ramon, Calif./California) and freshman Christina Behrens (Saratoga, Calif./Saratoga). Ketterer is a 3.35 student majoring in environmental studies, while Chesterfield graduated with a 3.31 GPA in the same major. Bardoe carries a 3.29 after her first year with the Bison, and Fulop ended her Orange and Blue career with a 3.20 in accounting. Aiken, a civil engineering major, and Behrens, both maintain a 3.20 GPA.
Bucknell finished its 2003 season with a 14-17 overall record. The Bison were 5-3 in the Collegiate Water Polo Association's Southern Division and finished fifth at the conference tournament, advancing to the Eastern Championship for the third time in five years.
