LEWISBURG, Pa. - Recent Bucknell graduate Suzanne Raffaele (Springfield, Pa./Archmere Academy) was one of only 40 seniors in the country to participate in the Division I North-South Senior All-Star Game, held at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md., on June 7, 2003. Raffaele was the lone Patriot League representative in the event, playing for the North squad.
Raffaele became just the third Bison ever to be selected for the squad after an impressive senior season, and an even more impressive career. She joins 1997 graduate Kate McIlvain and 1995 graduate Jen Kangas on the elite list. This past year, the attack scored a career-best 40 goals, and equaled her career-high with 10 assists to lead the team in scoring with 50 points. In the process, Raffaele set Bucknell records for both career goals (144) and points (173).
Recently, Raffaele was named to the 2003 Brine IWLCA/US Lacrosse Mid-Atlantic Region Second-Team for the first time in her career. Her selection to the regional squad was only the third in school history, joining 2001 graduate Ashley Evans and 1998 graduate Heidi Hammes on the list.
Only the second Bison to win the Patriot League Rookie of the Year award in 2000, Raffaele accomplished a first for the Bucknell program as a senior, earning the league's Offensive Player of the Year award. With her selection to the All-Patriot League First-Team in her final year, the captain became just the sixth player in conference history to earn a spot on the all-league team all four years. She was a second team selection in both her freshman and sophomore years, and earned first team honors the past two year.
Joining Raffaele on the North team were: Sarah Averson (Cornell), Rachael Becker (Princeton), Clarissa Clarke (Yale), Jada Emery (UMass), Kelly Feeley (UConn), Alex Fiore (Princeton), Erica Holveck (Cornell), Whitney Horton (Penn), Caroline Kelleher (Boston University), Katie Lavin (Cornell), Whitney Miller (Princeton), Meg Murphy (Boston University), Colleen O'Hara (Penn State), April Pollock (UConn), Sarah Queener (Yale), Ellen Rust (Syracuse), Briana Smith (Boston University), Kim Wayne (Syracuse), Jen White (Notre Dame). The team was coached by Jenny Graap of Cornell.
Raffaele saw time in the all-star game, which was played in a driving rainstorm. The North squad faced a 5-1 deficit in the first half before rallying to tie the contest at 5-5 at the intermission. The South scored five unanswered to open the second half, before going on to defeat the North, 14-7.
