LEWISBURG, Pa. - The US Lacrosse National High School Senior Boys All-Star games will be held on Saturday, June 21 at Binghamton (N.Y.) University's Track Stadium as part of the annual US Lacrosse Youth Festival. Four participants in the contest will be freshmen members of the Bucknell men's lacrosse team in 2003-04.
Representing the North team will be two-time high school All-America defender Greg Sowyrda (Hingham, Mass./Hingham/Deerfield Academy) and midfielder Tyler Mayberry (North Yarmouth, Maine/Greely). Middie Kirk Klett (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) will play for the West team, while prep All-America middie Kevin McCarthy (Delray Beach, Fla./St. Andrews) will suit up for the South squad.
The South and West will play at 2 p.m., followed by the East against the North at 4:30 p.m. Past participants in this event have included Michael Powell, John Christmas and Greg Peyser and many other current college lacrosse stars.
Complete rosters of the 2003 teams are available here.
The US Lacrosse Youth Festival will bring more than 90 teams and 2,000 lacrosse players to Binghamton Friday for three days of games in a celebration of youth lacrosse. The event, hosted by the Upstate New York Chapter of US Lacrosse, comes to Binghamton for the first of two years and will feature non-tournament competition involving boys' and girls' under-15 and under-13 teams from across the nation.
The focus of the Youth Festival is on participation, sportsmanship, and quality of experience. Festival participants are not selected for all-star teams, nor are champions crowned. Participants and fans will once again sign a "Code of Conduct" that US Lacrosse and its national partner, Positive Coaching Alliance, developed to emphasize to coaches, players, and parents to honor the game at all times.
Warrior is serving as the event's presenting sponsor. Lacrosse vendors will be on display at the East end of Track Stadium throughout the weekend. Scott Bowen and Ed Stephenson served as co-chairs of the host committee.
