Bison Track and Field Competes At James Madison Invitational

HARRISONBURG, Va. - The Bucknell track and field team participated in the James Madison Invitational last-chance meet on Sunday, May 11. Highlighting the weekend, Dionne Bonds placed first in the triple jump with a leap of 38'1.5" to reach a personal best and stands third on Bucknell's all-time charts. Noel Powell earned two silver medals after placing second in both the 100-meter (10.67) and 200-meter (21.68) dashes.
On the women's side, Maria Garcia added a silver medal with a toss of 171'11" in the hammer throw. Angela McFarland grabbed sixth with a throw of 142'9" in the hammer. McFarland also participated in the discus with a mark of 128'10" for seventh.
In the running events, Danielle Todman cleared the 100-meter hurdles in 15.80 and the 400-meter hurdles in 1:08.57. Amy Calvo ran the 200-meter dash in 26.01 and crossed the line in the 400-meter in 57.62. Nicki Piper finished the 800-meter in 2:17.19.
Ryan Newberger completed the 200-meter (21.74) dash tied for fourth, while finishing the 100-meter dash in 10.91. Matthew Solomon finished the 200-meter dash in 23.06.
Micha Wright crossed the line in the 400-meter run in 51.14. Eric Furst (1:54.41) and Aaron Hanlon (2:00.69) participated in the 800-meter. Richard Alexander ran the 110-meter hurdles in 15.48. Finally, Bucknell's 4x100-meter relay team finished first with a time of 41.68. Newberger, Powell, Solomon and Wright participated in the relay.
At The College of New Jersey meet, Mike Mellas participated in the decathlon this past weekend. He placed fourth overall and scored a personal best 5,788 points.
Brandon Risser finished first in the 3,000-meter run at the Towson University Open. He received the gold after crossing the line in 9:29.
The Bison will prepare for the ECAC/IC4A Championships. The championships will be held on May 16-18 in Princeton, N.J.
