LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bison women's tennis team improved to 14-3 overall with a 6-1 win over perennial Division II powerhouse, Bloomsburg. The Orange and Blue won five of six singles bouts and claimed the doubles point for the win.
In doubles play, the number one tandem of Nadezda Curcic and Veronica Brown lost for just the third time this spring, falling 8-6 to Erin Bartsch and Miranda Campbell. Tanya Sichko and Jill Wurzburg picked the duo up, defeating Julianne Bramante and Lindsey Wychoff 8-3 at the second flight. Rheanna Gaskin and Samantha Berthod secured the doubles point with a 9-8 (1) decision over Brande Hansteen and Lauren Colfer at number three.
In singles action, Curcic was a 6-4, 6-3 loser to Bartsch at number one, but the Bison rattled off five straight singles wins for the victory.
Brown picked up a 6-2, 7-5 win against Campbell at number two. Wurzburg followed with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 decision over Bramante at the third flight. Sichko battled to a 6-7 (4), 6-2, 6-4 win over Wychoff, while Gaskin earned a 6-3, 6-0 decision against Colfer. Berthod rounded out the scoring with a 7-6 (2), 6-1 win over Hansteen at number six.
Bucknell is 14-3 overall. The Bison travel to Army for a critical Patriot League match with the Black Knights on Saturday, April 19, before hosting conference rival American on Sunday in the final home match of the season at 11:00 a.m. Bloomsburg is 11-5.
