'Voice of the Bison' Doug Birdsong Receives Broadcasting Award for Second Year

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell University radio and television coordinator and marketing specialist Doug Birdsong -- "The Voice of the Bison" -- received the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters "Best Coverage of a Local Sporting Event" award, for the second consecutive season.
Birdsong, a 1987 Marshall University graduate who has called play-by-play for 19 years, including the last three at Bucknell, was honored for his coverage of the Navy at Bucknell men's basketball game in Lewisburg, Pa., on Feb. 14. The Bison blew past the Midshipmen in a 59-41 victory. Color analyst Dave Cohen, Bucknell senior, joined Birdsong on the broadcast of the stimulating contest.
The award, for the broadcast, will be presented to The Valley, WVLY, at the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters Annual Convention, May 5, in Hershey, Pa. The Milton-based station broadcasts the complete Bucknell men's basketball schedule, while the sister station, WMLP, features Bucknell football, women's Patriot League basketball contests. This spring Birdsong has called games in men's and women's lacrosse, baseball, softball and women's water polo.
