LEWISBURG, Pa. - On Tuesday, April 1, Bucknell freshman pitcher Phil Futrick (Shillington, Pa./Govenor Mifflin) was honored Patriot League Rookie of the Week for the second time this season, and Bison track and field freshman Justin Alden-Dunn (Newton, Mass./Dover Sherbourn) received his first PL Male Field Athlete of the Week award.
Futrick earned two saves out of the bullpen for the Orange and Blue during a four-game series against Holy Cross. The rookie picked up his first save in a 5-4 seventh inning victory in game one against the Crusaders. He continued his no-run season sequence and recorded a strikeout en route to his third save. Futrick earned his PL-best fourth save after shutting out HC in the seventh in the Bison's 8-6 win.
Futrick has pitched 6.2 innings only allowing two hits. The no-run rookie has also recorded five strike outs and allowed one walk.
Bucknell is scheduled to play Navy in Annapolis, Md. for a four-game series on April 5 and 6. The start time for both doubleheaders is slated for noon.
Alden-Dunn received Men's Field Athlete of the Week for the first time in his career after a solid performance at the Susquehanna Invitational last weekend. The rookie pole vaulter cleared a career-high 15'6". Alden-Dunn now stands third-best on Bucknell's all-time charts, with a mark six inches higher than the runner-up.
The Bison track and field program will participate in the Colonial Relays at William and Mary in Williamsburg, Va., on April 4 and 5. Bucknell will host their first home meet, Bison Outdoor Classic, on April 11 and 12.
