Bucknell Softball Earns First Win of the Season on Saturday

ORLANDO, FLA. - After a 0-10 week, the Bucknell softball team broke the losing streak with a 6-1 win over the University of Maine on Saturday afternoon at the Rebel Spring Games. Lauren Wible and Kris Devore each earn two runs batted in assisting the Bison with scoring.
In game one of the afternoon for the Bison were victorious over Maine after scoring six runs off of seven hits. In the third inning the Bison decided to take charge of the game, with one out, when Jill Pompeii hopped onto first base on an error by the third baseman. Angela Stackhouse gained a base when the second baseman bobbled the ball, while Pompeii advanced to third. Lauren Wible hit a double into deep center, allowing Pompeii to score and advancing Stackhouse to third. Meredith Gill was walked advancing everyone and earning an RBI for scoring Stackhouse. Jennifer Ross hit a single to assist Wible in scoring. The Bison left the third inning up by three.
In the fourth inning Pompeii hit a double, which set her in scoring position. Stackhouse hit a single and assisted Pompeii to third base and Wible gave a sacrifice bunt to score Pompeii. Ross reached first by an error on the left fielder and was able to score when Alyssa Schneebaum hit a hard triple down the left line. The Bison stood 5-0 at the bottom of the fifth inning.
Maine scored one run in the top of the sixth, but the Bison can back when Stackhouse was walked and then moved around the bases by a double from Wible and a single by Ross. Bucknell closed the seven inning game with a score of 6-1.
Julie Williams received her first win of the season on the mound. She pitched a full seven innings and gave up one unearned run off of two hits.
Against Quinnipiac, the Orange and Blue fell 6-1. The Bison faced their last game in Osceola, Fla. at the Rebel Spring Games in an evening game against the Bobcats. Quinnipiac started the scoring in the first inning when Sara Collins smashed a homerun into left field. Bucknell grabbed five hits, while Quinnipiac snatched 11, including two doubles, three triples, and one homerun.
Kelli Haskins pitched five innings for the Bison and gave up six earned runs off of 11 hits. Lauren Box was pulled from the bullpen in the sixth inning after the Bobcats hit two consecutive triples. Box finished the game facing three batters and striking out one.
The Bison are 1-11 as they return to Lewisburg, Pa. Bucknell finished the week with 50 hits, 12 doubles, one triple and 17 RBI's.
