RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Senior Lindsay Chesterfield made a season-high 14 saves against 20th-ranked Cal State Northridge, but the Bucknell women's water polo squad dropped a heartbreaking 4-3 game to the Matadors in the final game of the Lancer Invitational. The Bison went 1-3 at the event, hosted by Cal Baptist on Saturday-Sunday, March 14-15.
With the score tied 1-1 after one quarter, Northridge used a 2-0 second quarter to hold a 3-1 lead at halftime. The Orange and Blue got within one after three, 3-2, and tied the contest again midway through the fourth quarter. The Matadors' Chari Christopher broke the tie with the game-winning-goal with 1:15 to play.
Sophomores Katie Hartigan and Eileen Ketterer, and junior Kelly Hofstetter each scored for Bucknell. Sophomore Cody Keffer added two assists in the defensive battle.
The Bison fall to 5-8 on the year. Bucknell is in action next on Friday, March 21, when it hosts Michigan State in the first game of the Bucknell Invitational. Kinney Jr. Natatorium, will begin at 8:00 p.m. and will be broadcast live on WMLP-1380 AM by Doug Birdsong, the Voice of the Bison. Pre-game will begin 15 minutes prior to the opening sprint.
