Bison Softball Searches for a W on Day Two of Rebel Spring Games

OSCEOLA, FLA. - With a total of 12 hits and three runs, Bucknell softball fell short during two games in Osceola, Fla. The Bison fell to George Mason by a score of 9-1 and to Fairfield, 7-2. Meredith Gill and Angie Stackhouse earned the only doubles of the day against Fairfield.
In game one of the afternoon, the Bison captured five hits from George Mason. In the second inning, Jill Pompeii caught an amazing line drive to left field to begin a double play. The left fielder then threw the ball into home plate to assist Stackhouse in the double play.
Bucknell held GMU until the third inning, when they scored only one run. In the fifth inning GMU scored two more runs before GMU's Kat Hkycyna hit a homerun in the sixth to start a three run series. Kirsten Potts scored the only run for the Bison in the sixth inning, while Lauren Wible received the RBI. George Mason closed the seventh inning attaching another three runs.
Kellie Haskins started on the mound for the Bison and gave up nine of the 12 hits. Lauren Box relieved Haskins on the mount in the sixth inning after Haskins faced four batters. Haskins received the loss and now owns a 0-2 record for the season.
Under the lights, Bucknell faced Fairfield in game two of the day. Bottom of the first inning, Fairfield scored the first run of the evening. Fairfield proceeded to add five runs off of four hits in the second inning. Fairfield completed their scoring in the third inning adding only one more run off of three hits.
The Orange and Blue were unable to score until the sixth inning, when Gill scored on an error on Fairfield's right fielder. Gill then scored the final point for Bucknell in the seventh inning after hitting a double, but advancing around the bases to home plate on an error from the short stop.
The Bison recorded a season high seven hits against Fairfield, while allowing 11. Box recorded her second loss for the season.
The Herd stands 0-4 on the season. Bucknell will have Tuesday off and will begin play again on Wednesday, Mar. 12 when they will face Rhode Island at 9:30 a.m. and Youngstown at 11:20 a.m.
