Seventeen Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Athletes Receive All-League Honors

LEWISBURG, Pa. - Seven Bucknell men and 10 Bison women were named to the All-Patriot League Indoor Track and Field teams, on Friday. The women repeated as Patriot League Champions, while the men placed third out of eight teams.
The Indoor Track and Field All-League Teams are chosen based upon the student athlete's performance at the 2003 Patriot League Indoor Championships held Feb. 21-23 at Colgate. The winner and runner-up in each event earn all-league status.
On the women's side, Dionne Bonds (Phoenixville, Pa./Phoenixville Area) earned a gold in the triple jump with a leap of 37'10.75". Senior Theresa Dennis (Wilkes-Barre, Pa./Hanover Area) finished first in the 5,000-meter run (17:53.86) and second in the 3,000-meters (10:26.95).
Nicki Piper (Mineral Point, Pa./Central Cambria) earned a gold in the 800-meter run with a 2:16.47 finish. She also assisted the 4x400-meter (3.54.01) and the 4x800-meter (9:16.47) relay teams to second place finishes. Amy Calvo (Trenton, N.J./Lawrence) finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 57.37. She also placed second in the 500-meter (1:15.78) and assisted the 4x400-meter and 4x800-meter relay teams to a second place finish.
Monique Boley (Alexandria, Va./Washington Lee) and Charity Brady (Warren, Ohio/Warren G. Harding) assisted Piper and Calvo in the 4x400-meter relay. Kerryann Branker (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) and Jennifer Marsh (Clearfield, Pa./Clearfield) partook in the 4x800-meter relay for the second place finish.
Brady also earned silver medals in the 200-meter dash (25.78) and 400-meter dash (57.80). Marsh received second place honors in the 1,000-meter run with a time of 2:58.54. Tolulope Fayanjuola (Providence, R.I./Classical) placed second in the 55-meter dash with a time of 7.39. Maria Garcia (Providence, R.I./Hope) threw the weight 52'2.75" for a second place award.
On the men's side, junior Noel Powell (Tamaqua, Pa./Tamaqua) received the only gold medal for the Bison. The three-time all-star earned first place in the long jump with a leap of 24'5.5". Bryan Johnston (Kane, Pa./Kane Area) ran the 3,000-meter in 8:28.10 for a second place finish. Emory Strother (Memphis, Tenn./White Station) jumped 6'5" in the high jump for the silver.
The distance medley relay team earned second place with a time of 10:14.70. Members of the distance medley relay included, Lou Palma (Gladstone, N.J./Bernards), Wesley Reinhardt (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park), John Trotta, Jr. (Washingtonville, N.Y./Washingtonville) and Micah Wright (Bensalem, Pa./Milton Hershey School).
Head coach Kevin Donner was awarded the Women's Coach of the Year for the second time.
