Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Competes In National Invitational

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's indoor track and field teams participated in the Penn State National Invitational, which started Friday evening and concluded Saturday evening.
In the women's competition, the Bison made a number of showings. In he 400-meter dash, Amy Calvo placed 13th with a time of 57.26. Kayla Halloran (34th, 5:22.60) and Kerryann Branker (37th, 5:25.87) competed in the mile run. Monique Boley ran the 500-meter in 1:17.92 to finish 14th. For the Bison, Nicki Piper finished 21st in the 800-meter while clocking in at 2:15.99.
Jennifer Marsh and Jennifer Malcolm participated in the 1000-meter event. Marsh finished fourth (2:56.97), and Malcom marked 18th with a time of 3:11.31. Marsh now stands fourth on Bucknell's all-time charts. Theresa Dennis placed sixth in the 5000-meter run with a finish time of 17:32.77. In the women's weight throw, Elizabeth Pendleton placed 12th with a measurement of 47'9.75".
On the men's side of competition, Noel Powell placed eighth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.94, and Ryan Newberger finished tied for 12th with a time of 22.12. Powell set the new school record in the 200-meter dash. Lou Palma ran the mile run in 4:14.94 to place 14th.
In the 500-meter, Brian Klotz and Christopher Edwards competed for Bucknell. Klotz finished eighth with a time of 1:05.84 and now stands tied for seventh on the all-time charts. Edwards crossed the line 19th at 1:06.96. Tom Prochilo, Koran Evans and Aaron Hanlon ran the 800-meter. Prochilo captured 39th (1:57.18), Evans finished 42nd (1:57.46) and Hanlon grabbed 51st (1:59.76).
Eric Furst placed fourth in the 1000-meter run with a 2:25.14 mark. He improved his all-time mark and now stands fourth on the Bison charts. John Trotta also competed in the 1000-meter run and placed 33rd (2:32.69). Wes Reinhardt ran the 3000-meter and placed 57th. Bryan Johnston grabbed 10th in the 5000-meter with a time of 14:48.30, and Stephan Schaefer marked with a time of 15:49.36.
To close the weekend, Powell captured a second place mark in the long jump with a measurement of 23'11.5".
"As we approach the Patriot League Championships, it really looks like many of our athletes are starting to round into shape," stated head coach Kevin Donner. "We still need some key athletes to step up and perform if we want any chance to win the Patriot League title. Hopefully, next week at Kent, we will see that."
Bucknell will return to action next weekend, Saturday, February 8, when they travel to compete at the Kent State Invitational.
