Bucknell and Ursinus meet for the first time in 61 years Monday night at Sojka Pavilion. The Bison are coming off a 9-point loss to Penn on Saturday, while the Bears remained unbeaten with a 92-72 win over Washington College in their last outing on Dec. 10.
Monday's contest features a battle of high-scoring guards in Bucknell's Kevin Bettencourt (17.1 ppg) and Ursinus' Dennis Stanton (31.5 ppg). Bettencourt enjoyed a career-high 42-point night at Saint Francis (Pa.) on Dec. 6, while Stanton had a career-high 37 points against Lebanon Valley on Nov. 30.
The Bison have received major contributions from freshmen Chris McNaughton and Donald Brown, who have both assumed starting roles. McNaughton upped his season average to 13.3 ppg with a 20-point effort against Penn on Saturday, and he continues to lead the nation in field goal percentage at a whopping 80.4%.
Bucknell leads the all-time series 12-1, but Ursinus won the most recent matchup 53-46 in Collegeville, Pa. Earlier that season, the Bison won 50-33 in Lewisburg in the last of their 12 series wins. Ursinus is coming off a stellar 21-7 (13-0 Centennial Conference) campaign in which it advanced to the second round of the Division III NCAA Tournament.
