LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell newcomer Chris McNaughton (Leutershausen, Germany/Dientzenhofer Gymnasium) has been named the Patriot League Freshman of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
McNaughton, who garners the award for the first time, totaled 26 points and eight rebounds in 39 minutes of action over two games last week. He made 10 of 13 shots (.769) from the field over that span.
In last Wednesday's heartbreaking 63-62 home loss to Yale, McNaughton made 5 of 6 shots from the floor and finished with 12 points and seven rebounds. His basket with 44 seconds remaining gave Bucknell a one-point lead, but Yale eventually won it on a late 3-pointer.
On Saturday, McNaughton was one of the bright spots in Bucknell's 90-71 loss to Niagara in Rochester, N.Y. The 6'11" center scored a career-high 14 points, going 5-for-7 from the field and 4-for-4 from the free-throw line.
McNaughton, who has averaged nearly 16 minutes of playing time off the bench in three games, is shooting 78.6 percent (11-14) from the field this season.
Bucknell travels to Northwestern on Wednesday night in search of its first victory of the season.
