LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell senior women's basketball player Desire Almind (Blairstown, N.J./North Warren Regional) has been named the Lewisburg Hotel Bison Athlete of the Week for the week ending November 30, 2003. It is the first award of the 2003-04 season for Almind.
In a 1-1 week for the Orange and Blue, Almind averaged 17.5 points per game and 14.0 rebounds per outing. Her most impressive performance came in a 69-64 victory over Coppin State on November 30 when the 6-0 guard/forward scored a game-high 23 points and pulled down a game-best 18 rebounds. Her carom total established a Sojka Pavilion record, besting the previous mark of 17 set by Lehigh's Anne Tierney on January 15, 2003.
Against Loyola (Md.) on November 25, Almind scored 12 points and pulled in 10 rebounds for her first double-double of the year.
For the year, Almind is second on the squad with 15.7 points per game and leads the team and the Patriot League with 12.3 rebounds per game. She has also recorded at least one block in every game this season to lead the team in that category with six.
Bucknell is 1-2 on the year and hosts Bowling Green in a non-conference game on Wednesday, December 3, at 7:00 p.m.
