LEWISBURG, Pa. - Seven Bison athletes from the men's and women's cross country teams earned all-Patriot League status by virtue of their performances in the Patriot League Championship held last Saturday at Lafayette. Top-ten finishers at that meet received first-team honors, while finishers in the next ten received second-team recognition. Greg Costello (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mount Lebanon) and Katie Pfeifer (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) were first-team honorees for Bucknell, as both athletes finished ninth in their respective races. As a team, the Bison took fourth in the league on both the men's and the women's side.
Pfeifer finished the 5,800-meter run in 21:37.10, bringing home Bucknell's top time for the second straight race after doing so at the Pre-NCAA Meet on Oct. 18 in Waterloo, Iowa. Costello finished the five-mile course in 25:48.30, also the second time that he has paced the Bison runners. Costello also had Bucknell's top time at the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 27.
Second-teamers on the women's side were Lauren Bricker (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield), Jamie Gow (Brookline, N.H./Hollis-Brookline), and Kayla Halloran (Norwell, Mass./Norwell). Bricker finished 15th overall with Bucknell's second-best time of 21:47.30. It was the second time Bricker has been the number two Bison, after the Gulden Invitational on Oct. 3. Gow finished 16th overall, right behind Bricker, in 21:47.70. It was only the second race of the year for the sophomore Gow. Halloran finished 20th, in 21:53.90, in Bucknell's fourth-best time. She had paced the Bison twice this year on two important courses, including at the Lafayette Invitational, the same course as the league meet, and at the Lock Haven Invitational, where the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional will be held on Nov. 15.
On the men's side, Dan Lounsbury (Melrose, Mass./Melrose) finished 17th overall with Bucknell's second-best time of 26:10.30. It was the second time Lounsbury had Bucknell's number two time, after finishing in that spot on the team at the Pre-NCAA Meet. Wes Reinhardt (Bethel Park, Pa./Bethel Park) finished 19th overall in 26:12.40 with Bucknell's third-best time. In his previous four races this season, Reinhardt had Bucknell's top or second-best time.
The Bison will continue in their quest for championships at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet held on Nov. 15 at Lock Haven University. Teams and individuals who qualify at that meet will advance to the NCAA Championship meet on Nov. 24 at Northern Iowa University.
