LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell female athletes were honored for their October performances at the Women's Sports Luncheon held monthly by Bucknell and sponsored by Curves Fitness for Women and K.I.C.K.S. Self-Defense for Women. Soccer player Shannon Curd (Westtown, N.Y./Minisink Valley), cross country runner Katie Pfeifer (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville), and Breean Trapasso (North Tonawanda, N.Y./North Tonawanda) were chosen as honorees for their respective teams.
Curd had three goals and an assist in the month of October, including two goals in a 3-2 win over South Alabama on Oct. 12. She also scored the following day at Florida International in a 1-1 tie, while her assist came in a 4-1 league win at home against Army. For the season, which concluded on Nov. 1, Curd had four goals, tying her for second on the team. Bucknell women's soccer finished the season with a 7-6-3 record.
Pfeifer was Bucknell's top finisher in ninth place at the Patriot League cross country championship race on Nov. 1 at Lafayette, with a time of 21:37.10 on the 5,800-meter course. Her performance earned her first-team all-league status. She was also Bucknell's top finisher at the Pre-NCAA Meet held in Waterloo, Iowa, where she finished the 6,000-meter course in 22:41. In November, Pfeifer and her teammates will continue the quest for championships at the Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Nov. 15 at Lock Haven University.
Trapasso was named the Patriot League Player of the Week for volleyball after her performances against Bucknell's Pennsylvania Patriot League neighbors last weekend. She recorded 73 assists over the two matches, with 41 coming against third-place Lehigh. For the weekend, she averaged over 12 assists per game. Earlier this season, Trapasso became only the third player in Bucknell history to record 2,000 assists. For the month of October, the Bison went 7-1. Trapasso and her teammates will face Navy and league-leading American on Friday and Saturday, respectively, at Davis Gym in the penultimate Patriot League regular-season weekend. Bucknell trails American by a single match in the league standings.
The next Curves and K.I.C.K.S. Women's Sports Luncheon will be on Thursday, December 4 to honor the November performances of Bucknell's female athletes.
