BRONX, N.Y. - Greg Costello went two-for-two as the fastest Bison in the Bronx's Van Cortlandt Park this season and Katie Pfeifer paced the Bison women for her fourth straight race as Bucknell cross country finished its season in the IC4A men's championship and ECAC women's championship. Earlier this season, Bucknell sent teams to the Iona Meet of Champions, held at the same location. Costello was Bucknell's fastest male runner in that race, as well.
Costello's time of 25:22 in the five-mile race was the fourth-best overall, putting him 24 seconds behind race winner Casey Moriarty from Yale. Delaware's Patrick Riley (25:06) and Fairleigh Dickinson's Alfred Korir (25:13) finished second and third, respectively.
The rest of the Bison scorers were Aaron Hanlon (20th, 25:50), Dan Lounsbury (29th, 26:02), Doug Creveling (43rd, 26:16), and Sean McCarthy (44th, 26:17). Other Bison competitors included Matt Forys (50th, 26:21), Wes Reinhardt (53rd, 26:23), Stephen Schaefer (72nd, 26:50), Ryan Delaney (89th, 27:08), Kevin Fortkiewicz (91st, 27:11), Kevin Brown (92nd, 27:11), and Kevin Walsh (96th, 27:14).
As a team, the Bucknell men totaled 123 points, behind James Madison (71), Princeton (86), and Penn State (112). On the women's side, Bucknell finished eighth with 186 points, behind Yale (40), Cornell (58), Maryland (90), Princeton (115), James Madison (116), Georgetown (121), and Columbia (168).
Pfeifer's time of 18:54 was 22nd overall. Bucknell's other scoring runners were Jennifer Stevens (38th, 19:25), Kayla Halloran (40th, 19:30), Julie Jakoboski (48th, 19:41), and Alison Cole (50th, 19:45). Jennifer Marsh (54th, 20:03) and Lauren Bricker (56th, 20:26) also ran for Bucknell.
Kate Boyles of Cornell won the race in 17:57 in an Ivy League-dominated top-10. Only Maryland's Allison Carney (2nd, 18:07) and James Madison's Jennifer Lapetoda (4th, 18:19) came from non-Ivy schools. Cornell's Nyam Kagwima (3rd, 18:17) and Emily McCabe (10th, 18:30), Yale's Susan Chan (5th, 18:19), Rebecca Hunter (6th, 18:23), Anne Martin (7th, 18:26), and Emily Vince (9th, 18:29), and Princeton's Catha Mullen (8th, 18:28) all had top-10 times.
Bucknell's men and women also ran in the "Coaches' Race" at Van Cortlandt Park, as thirteen Bison men and 10 Bison women took part. The IC4A and ECAC meets concluded the Bucknell cross country season, as the Bison speedsters will gear up for the Dec. 6 Bison Opener, welcoming the indoor track season to Lewisburg.
