LEWISBURG, Pa. - Bucknell head softball coach Janelle Breneman has announced the hiring of assistant coaches Theresa Ditlow and Stacey Schramm for the upcoming 2004 season.
Ditlow will serve as an assistant coach for the pitching staff after a successful pitching career at Niagara University. During her playing days at Niagara, Ditlow was a spot starter on the mound for the Purple Eagles. A four-year member of the team, Ditlow's best season came in 2000 when she posted a 1.74 earned run average, good enough for ninth on the Niagara all-time single-season list.
A three-time member of the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference All-Academic Team, she got involved in the coaching ranks throughout her career, serving as an assistant coach for the Niagara Explosion 18-Under and 16-Under teams. Ditlow was also a pitching instructor and participated in yearly clinics sponsored by Niagara University.
Upon graduating Suma Cum Laude from Niagara in 2002, the psychology major spent a year pursuing her master's degree in child and adolescent community counseling at Slippery Rock University. While studying at the western Pennsylvania school, Ditlow was a program assistant group supervisor for the Before School program at the Butler, Pa., YMCA. She has been actively involved in several community service events since 2000, and also served as the graduate assistant for the Institute of Community Service Learning and Nonprofit Leadership at Slippery Rock.
"I am confident that Theresa will make a positive impact with our student athletes," stated Breneman. "She was a dedicated student-athlete herself and we will look for her experience and pitching expertise to be a great fit to our program."

Schramm, an assistant coach with the team for the past year, will be pursuing her master's degree as a graduate assistant, marking the first time in program history the graduate assistantship is offered. During her playing days at Monmouth, Schramm, a 2001 graduate of the West Long Branch, N.J., school, was a four-year starter at short stop. She served as the team captain during her junior and senior seasons with the Hawks. As a junior, Schramm was named a First-Team All-Northeast Conference selection for her play. During her final season at Monmouth, she was honored as an All-American Scholar and a Woman of the Year Nominee.
Upon graduating from Monmouth, the special education major spent a year working at Northern Burlington County Regional High School as a teacher and assistant coach to the 2002 New Jersey state champions. In addition, she was an assistant coach for the South Jersey Hornets, an ASA travel team.
"The softball program is fortunate to have Stacey returning to the coaching staff as a graduate assistant," commented Breneman. "She brought a tremendous amount of enthusiasm to her position last year, and to be able to bring her back for a second season is not only a benefit to the team and the coaching staff, but to the program as a whole. Her dedication towards her education and her passion for the game will inspire our players to achieve success on and off the diamond."
Bucknell has ranked among the nation's leaders in the graduation rate of its student-athletes in recent years, including best-in-the-nation accolades in 1992, 1993, 1996 and 2003. During the 2002-03 academic year, Bison student-athletes were awarded five of the 22 Patriot League Scholar-Athlete citations. Bucknell also claimed a league-high 297 members of the 2002-03 Patriot League Academic Honor Roll, which honors student-athletes who achieve a 3.20 grade-point average during the semester coinciding with his/her sport.
