Bison Men's and Women's Cross Country Teams Claim Gulden Invitational

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's cross country teams ran their only home meet of the season, hosting eight teams on both sides. Running the Gulden Invitational, named after long-time Bucknell coach Art Gulden, the Bison men's squad came in first with 23 points, while the women's team took the gold with 26 points.
The men dominated their race, with all the designated scorers finishing in the top 10. Dan Lounsbury was the Orange and Blue's top-runner, crossing the line second overall in a time of 25:00. Wes Reinhardt was just eight seconds behind him for third place. Also scoring for Bucknell, and claiming the fifth through ninth spots, were Aaron Hanlon (25:21), Sean McCarthy (25:27), Greg Costello (25:36), Doug Creveling (25:37) and KC Brown (25:38).
In the team standings, the second-place finisher Lock Haven accumulated 83 points. Bloomsburg was just behind the Eagles for third with 86 points. IUP (109), Susquehanna (127), St. Francis (Pa.) (137), Clarion (148), Niagara (246) and Canisius (DNF) rounded out the field.
Susquehanna's Ryan Gleason claimed the individual title with a time of 24:47.
On the women's side, BU was equally as dominant, taking five of the top eight spots. Julie Jakaboski was Bucknell's top individual finisher, coming in third in a time of 23:01. Just five seconds behind Jakaboski was Lauren Bricker, and Leanna Nastase crossed the line only two seconds after that, at the same time as teammate Alison Cole. Katie Pfeifer rounded out the squad's top-10 finishers with her eighth place finish in 23:18. Also scoring for the Bison was 12th-place Jennifer Stevens (23:40) and Mollie Harms (23:43) in 13th.
As a team, the Orange and Blue defeated runner-up IUP by 27 points. Bloomsburg was behind IUP with 72. Rounding out the field were Clarion (101), Canisius (169), Susquehanna (176), Lock Haven (222), St. Francis (Pa.) (223) and Niagara (225).
Mindy Sawtelle of IUP was the women's individual champion with a time of 21:28.
Both teams are in action again on Saturday October 18, when Bucknell travels to Northern Iowa for the Pre-NCAA meet. The Bison are also taking a squad to the Lafayette Invitational that day.
