Berthod Breaks Bucknell All-Time Singles Wins Record at ECAC Championships

West Point, N.Y. - Senior Samantha Berthod won her 51st singles match at Bucknell, passing Kristina Lutter '94 with her 6-3, 6-2 victory over Hofstra's Jill Spiritus in the second round of the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships at West Point, N.Y. Berthod received a bye in the first round and joined her teammates Rheanna Gaskin, Chelsea Mills, and Tanya Sichko as Bucknell's representatives at the event.
In the No. 1 singles flight, Gaskin fell to Nazli Gencsoy of George Washington, 6-0, 6-0 in a second round match following a bye. Gaskin rebounded in the back draw of flight one, where she beat New Hampshire's Jenna Kafferly, 8-6 in a pro-set format.
In the No. 2 singles flight, Sichko fell to Lara Madonia of Georgetown, 4-6, 6-3, (10-4), while Berthod's win was in flight three. In flight four, Chelsea Mills picked up two wins, the first over Nicole Henderson of Howard, 6-1, 6-1 in a first-round match, and then the second over Amber McGolerick of Army, seeded fourth in the draw, in the second round.
Tomorrow, Gaskin will continue in the number one back draw quarterfinals against third-seeded Whitney Simcik of Connecticut, while Tanya Sichko will play Emily Hughes of Pittsburgh in flight two's back draw quarterfinals. Berthod will play in the main draw quarterfinals of flight three against fourth-seeded Alison Adamski of Connecticut, while Chelsea Mills will play Lensey Dixon of New Hampshire in the fourth flight's quarterfinals. All matches will begin at 9 a.m.
