Bison Men's Water Polo Gets 14-9 Win Over LaVerne at Claremont Convergence

CLAREMONT, Calif. - The Bucknell men's water polo team got its first win on its West Coast swing, defeating LaVerne, 14-9, in the Claremont Convergence on Saturday, October 11. LaVerne is ranked seventh in the most recent Division III poll.
The Bison led 3-1 after one quarter, and never looked back. BU held a commanding 7-2 lead after two quarters, and the two teams equaled each other in the final two frames for the 14-9 Bucknell victory.
Scott Afzal led a balanced Bucknell attack with three goals and one assist. Five other players scored two goals apiece; Elliot Benoist, Bradley Roslyn, Aaron Platshon, Nick Ferring and Jay Danforth. Lars Weborg added the other Orange and Blue score.
Trevor Mullins was solid in goal in three quarters of work, stopping 10 shots and allowing only six goals. Michael McManigal played the final quarter, making one save.
Bucknell improves to 3-13 overall. The Bison face BYU-Hawaii in a 6:00 p.m. ET game for the final game of the tournament. BYU-Hawaii is ranked 15th in the latest Division I poll.
