LEWISBURG, Pa. - For the third time in four weeks, and for the fourth time this season, Bucknell freshman guard Kevin Bettencourt (Peabody, Mass./Peabody H.S.) has been named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week, the league office announced Monday.
In two games last week - both Bison losses - Bettencourt tallied a team-high 26 points. He registered 18 in last Wednesday's 60-56 loss to Lehigh in the first game in Sojka Pavilion, then added eight points in Saturday's 66-53 setback at Navy. He dished five assists with only two turnovers in 60 minutes of court time in the two games.
Bettencourt is averaging 10.0 points per game, the second-best average on the Bison squad the top scoring mark among all Patriot League freshmen. He leads Bucknell with 30 3-point field goals.
The Bison are 7-8 overall and 1-2 in the Patriot League heading into Tuesday night's non-league contest at Cornell. Bucknell hosts Army on Friday and Lafayette on Sunday in a key Patriot League weekend at Sojka Pavilion.
