Bucknell Indoor Track and Field Starts the New Year

LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell University men's and women's indoor track and field teams started the new year by hosting the Bucknell Gulden Relays, on Saturday. Over eight visiting teams joined the Bison for the first event after the winter break.
On the men's side of competition, Jeff Arek placed first in he pole vault with 14"9', while Justin Alden-Dunn captured the silver medal with 13'3". Noel Powell received a gold in the long jump with 24.25 feet. Powell ran the 55m dash in 6.58 to grab the bronze. Emory Strother followed Powell in the long jump with a second place finish (22'3").
The Bucknell "A" 4x800 relay team captured a first place finish with a time of 7:54.17. Bryan Johnston ran 4:19.67 in the mile to grab the gold. Bucknell's "A" distance medley relay team ran 10:25.54 to place first.
The women's team received a number of gold medals. In the shuttle hurdle relay Bucknell captured first with a time of 34.15 and now stands fourth on the All-Time list. The relay team included, Danielle Todman, Edwina Bourn, Jamie Lilien, and Kiley MacDonald. Theresa Dennis marked first in the 3000m run with a time of 10:32.23, with Alison Cole following at 10:46.52. Tolulope Fayanjuola marked 18'4.25" in the long jump for a gold and fourth on the All-Time list.
Maria Garcia (48'5.5"), Elizabeth Pendleton (48'5.5") and Angela McFarland (45'1.5") captured the top three places in the weight throw. Fayanjuola finished in first place with a 5'3" mark in the high jump. Abigail Bouzan-Kaloustian captured the gold in the pole vault with 10'4". Kiley McDonald completed the 55m hurdle in 8.64 to place first.
Kayla Halloran ran the mile in 5:23.32 to give the Bison a first place finish, while Jennifer Malcolm received the silver with a time of 5:25.13. Rachel Tutmaher (18:45.12), Katherine Pfeifer (19:14.71), Katie Fantauzzo (19:32.83) and Nicole Lynn (20:27.11) followed an unattached member to fall into the top collegiate slots.
The Bison sprint medley team, Charity Brady, Fayanjuola, Erin Turner-Byfield and Nicki Piper, marked fifth on the All-Time chart. The Bucknell "A" 4x400 relay team marked first with a time of 3:56.83.
Lou Palma, who participated in the 4x800 and the distance medley realy, received the Male Track Athlete of the Meet award. This award was given in honor of Coach Art Gulden, who was head coach of the Track and Field team at Bucknell for 18 seasons. Tolu Fayanjuola received the Female Field Athlete of the Meet award.
Bucknell will return to action next weekend, Saturday, January 18 when they travel to State College to partake in the Penn State Octagonal.
