Bison Volleyball Capture A Win At the Stony Brook Tournament

STONY BROOK, N.Y. - Bucknell's women's volleyball team captured a 3-0 victory over St. Francis (N.Y.) at the Stony Brook Holiday Inn Express Tournament Friday evening. Senior Melanie Ghiz led the team with 20 kills, while junior Breean Trapasso completed 44 sets for the evening.
Bucknell started strong in the first game to earn a 30-19 victory over the Terriers. For the Bison, senior Jennifer Wrigley and sophomore Carolyn Dougherty marked seven and eight digs, respectively, during the first game.
The Orange and Blue returned to the court to defeat St. Francis, 30-21. Sophomore Jessica Bissett claimed five kills in the second game for Bucknell, while Ghiz added another nine.
During the third match-up, the Bison attained a 30-20 victory over the Terriers to win the match. Bucknell finished the match hitting .306 for the evening, while five players averaged over the .500 mark.
Ghiz tallied a total of 20 of the teams 58 kills for the evening. Junior Brandi Trapasso (17) and Wrigley (15) led the team in digs. Bucknell entered all 14 players throughout the match to produce a true team victory.
The Bison leave the court with a 2-2 overall record, while Saint Francis falls to 1-5 for the season.
Bucknell will conclude tournament play Saturday when it faces Providence at noon and host Stony Brook at 3:30 p.m.
