LEWISBURG, Pa. - The Bucknell baseball team selected seniors R.J. Grant (Ardsley, N.Y./Ardsley) and Zach Allen (Port Royal, Pa./Juniata) as captains of the 2003, announced head coach Gene Depew.
Grant, a Bison pitcher, has been chosen as co-captain for the Bison baseball team. Grant completed his junior season with a 2-5 pitching record, completing 43 innings and allowing 27 earned runs.
"Grant demonstrated a very good leadership role during his underclass tenure and should be a very positive leader for us as a senior," says Depew. "He is one of our most talented returning pitchers and a key to this year's season. We are pleased he has been selected as a captain and are confident he will respond to this role in a very positive manner."
Allen, also a pitcher for Bucknell, is the other candidate voted co-captain for the 2003 baseball season. Last year, he accomplished a 3-6 pitching record and saw a total of 58 innings during the season. Allen started for the Bison in 12 games throughout the 2002 season.
"Allen has earned the respect of our players as a starting pitcher for us during the past two years. His election as captain is a tribute to his hard work and dedication," stated Depew. "He will also be a key for us this coming year and we expect him to live up to his responsibilities in a very successful way."
The Bison will play an alumni game on Sunday, Oct. 13 at noon. Bucknell will begin its regular season play Feb. 15 with a doubleheader at Coppin State in Baltimore, Md.
