Bison Volleyball Score A 3-2 Victory Over Canisius In Buffalo Tournament

Buffalo, N.Y. - Bucknell's women's volleyball team started the season off with a 3-2 victory against Canisius at the University of Buffalo Hampton Inn-vitational Friday evening. With teamwork between Brandi Trapasso, tallying 23 digs and 16 kills, and Melanie Ghiz, marking 24 kills, the Bison head into the second day of competition with a 1-0 record.
Bucknell fell in the first game against the Golden Griffins, 30-28. The Bison then re-grouped to bang out two victories back-to-back, 30-20 and 30-27, to grab a 2-1 lead. Canisius then gave the Orange and Blue a challenge and tied the score 2-2 with a 31-29 game result. In the fifth game, Bucknell closed the contest 15-7 against the Griffs. The Bison were red hot with hitting .571 with eight kills and zero errors in the fifth game.
"Our team showed a great defensive effort throughout the first game of the season," stated head coach Cindy Opalski.
Along with Trapasso and Ghiz, Jennifer Wrigley was a key player for the Bison with a total of 15 kills and 18 digs.
Bucknell will conclude tournament play Saturday when it faces host Buffalo at 1 p.m. and Coastal Carolina at 4 p.m.
